Top 4 Requirements of a Good Colocation
Now that your company has chosen to get a colocation provider, the next step is to look for a good one. There are several data centres that offer their services but you should choose one that will give the best value for your investment.
The colocation provider must be financially stable. You don’t want to be forced to move to another data centre because the company you selected claims bankruptcy. Plus, when a company is financially profitable, it would not resort to hidden or excess charges for their own financial gains.
Cross connects must be free for up to ten per customer cabinet. You should check with the provider if this service is included with the deal. Cross connects can be really expensive. Search for a colocation provider that gives a fair rate on services with no hidden costs.
IP addresses must also be free. A data centre must provide free IP address for their clients. If you find one that charges you for an IP address, don’t sign up with that them. Chances are they are looking for ways to milk their clients.
There should be no extra monthly charge for power. The total cost should already include the bandwidth, IP addresses, cabinet/rack space, cross connects, and power among others. Be sure that you compare the total colocation package before signing on that dotted line.
