When conducting the election of an assortment of retail establishment, there are several components to be combined to reach the number of suitable references. Should be taken into account, among other things, the extent of the range and depth.
There are various combinations of these two components, some of which are almost certainly successful, as given in the case of large surfaces. These are a clear example of broader and deeper assortment, which undoubtedly work in today’s society, basically because they cover a multitude of needs and other factors that influence impulse buying. Yet we all know what kind of products can be found in each, there seems to be covering the entire range of the offer.
The range can also be somewhat narrower and deeper, that is, satisfying few needs but with a wide choice. This is the case of specialty shops. The fact of incorporating the ingredient of the degree of specialization of the establishment, will determine whether the choice of products and brands to offer consumers, ie the decision on the assortment has been adequate.
Specialization may include the type of products in the audience it is directed, or both.
If the selection of a facility is large but is not specialized, the risk exists that the depth is not sufficient for the customer looking for something very specific. You can even happen that a very low level of depth, not interested or the general public, who will be the establishment as a last resort (which we see in many shops run by Orientals).
Thus, the components of the set will have a different impact on sales of the establishment on the basis of the type we are talking shop, shop or general store. A store that specializes have to worry about customers find everything they want, because if you do not look like a thrift store category, or in a worst case, will compete with non-specialized.
