Build a mini website to get high rankings
First things first, which is a niche website? It’s basically a site that targets a very small niche, such as “pinot noir wines” or “wine tasting”. These sites typically have a small number of pages, ie 10 or 20, and its main objective is to position itself on the first page of Google for a particular keyword.
Once they do, will receive much organic traffic (ie traffic from search engines), and can monetize that traffic with CPC ads like Google Ad Sense or promote third party products, affiliate marketing. I prefer to call these sites “mini websites”, but many people refer to them as “Niche Website”, so we will use indistinctly both terms here. A couple of years, some marketers began to criticize the niche website, saying they were doomed to disappear, being replaced in the search results by major content portals covering a wide range of topics.
You know what? This did not happen, and niche websites are still powerful. In fact, Google recently implemented a change in its algorithm to favor them more. Basically the change made it more difficult for large Web sites rank for certain keywords in your internal pages, especially if those pages are not rich in content.
Want an example? Consider the keyword “Star Craft 2 download.” With the change in Google’s algorithm is now easier for a mini website called StartCraft2Descargar.com appear on the first page for that query, and more difficult for a large website as get that same result by simply publishing a internal page talking about that topic.
Another criticism that mini sites are that they are more volatile than large Web sites with authority. In other words, could one day be on the front page for a given keyword, and the next day be gone. This can happen if you use Black Hat SEO techniques to get a better position in search engine results, but otherwise, the previous review is not true in any possible way.
If your mini web site has information about a specific niche or keyword and a good amount of quality back links, Google would consider him an authority in this small niche, and therefore give high ratings for the Mini Web site. This is the aspect that most people fail. A mini site can also be a place of authority, even authority in a very small niche.
Now do not misunderstand me. Build a mini website to obtain a high ranking for highly competitive keyword is not easy or quick. You’ll have to work on the content, promote it and get a good amount of back links. But if you can do things well, developing a mini web site, at times he has some free time, could be a smart investment.
